Zoe Balfour
Zoe grew up in Wales a small country next to England. She has danced all her life, starting early with Scottish Sword dancing to the music of Bagpipes. Currently her passion is International Standard and Ballroom Competition Dancing. As a competition dancer she won silver medals in both Standard and Latin in the 2002 Gay Games in Sydney and is currently ranked 3rd in the world in Standard ballroom at the Gay Games 2006 and 6th in the world in Latin Ballroom at the Out Games 2006.
Zoe has been teaching dance for 18 years in America and Britain. She teaches Standard Ballroom, Latin, Line Dancing, Country and Western, East Coast & West Coast Swing, Night Club 2 Step, Salsa and more. In line with her advocacy of Same Sex Dancing Zoe coached 30 men and women in their quest to compete in the 2006 Gay Games. They all achieved their goals. She also enjoys her time as a dance instructor on Olivia Cruise.
She also choreographs routines and creates and trains dance formation teams to perform at various events and competitions like SF Pride Parade, Sistah Stepping in Pride and Gay Games.
Zoe hosts and DJ’s the Friday night dance “Trip the Light Fantastic” in Oakland, CA which has been running for the last 8 years. She also teaches at the Same Sex Partner Dancing Series on Monday evenings which she started in 2003 and the Same Sex Ballroom Dancing on Sunday Mornings.
She loves giving Private lessons for individuals, couples and groups. She is also available as a DJ for special events.
Roke Noir
Roke Noir is the Trip the Light Fantastic Business Manager. Roke comes from India and had never danced western dances before she started coming to Zoe's dances. But she loves dancing now, specially West Coast Swing and Line Dancing. She comes from the corporate world with 12 years of experience in project management, marketing, sales and business development. She is also an artist, a world traveller and loves throwing events. She and Zoe arranges tours to India for queer women through Cardamom Affair.
